TACLOBAN CITY – A tragic accident on the San Jose National Highway near Tacloban DZR Airport resulted in the immediate death of a woman on Tuesday afternoon, June 10. The fatal crash involved a passenger van, highlighting serious safety concerns along this busy route.
The Utility Vehicle Express, traveling from Ormoc City to Tacloban with about 11 or 12 passengers onboard—including a toddler—was driven by a man named Alex. According to sources, the vehicle was moving at a high speed from Coca-Cola Junction heading toward the airport when the driver suddenly lost control.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., the van crashed into a solar light pole positioned on the center island of the highway. The impact was severe enough to cause the immediate death of one female passenger. Authorities confirmed the collision happened near Barangay 88.
Five victims were rushed to RTR Hospital, while another five received treatment at ACE Medical Hospital. Police are still working to identify all passengers aboard the van and gather more information about the incident.
