Fatal Van Crash in Damulog Leaves One Dead, Six Hurt
A tragic van crash in Damulog, Bukidnon, resulted in one death and six injuries on Monday afternoon. The incident involved a van and a trailer truck colliding in Barangay Sampagar shortly after 3 p.m.
Among the injured were five Benedictine nuns and a monk traveling to Polomolok town in South Cotabato province. The van’s driver, Alfredo Lagrimas, unfortunately lost his life after being trapped inside the vehicle due to the severe impact.
Details of the Collision and Immediate Response
Local officials reported that the trailer truck involved was heading toward Cagayan de Oro City and was reportedly speeding at the time of the crash. The force of the collision caused significant damage to the van, trapping Lagrimas inside.
Authorities confirmed that the truck driver is now in custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene and extracted the victims from the wreckage.
Medical Treatment and Current Condition of Victims
The injured passengers were initially taken to Kibawe Emergency Hospital for urgent care. Subsequently, they were transferred to Malaybalay City Hospital for further treatment.
Community members noted that by Tuesday, the five nuns and the monk were reported to be out of danger and continue their recovery at Malaybalay Polymedic Center. The Abbey of Transfiguration expressed heartfelt gratitude for the prayers and support from the public, encouraging everyone to keep the victims in their thoughts.
