Ferry Crew Member’s Body Recovered at Calapan Port
Authorities confirmed the recovery of a ferry crew member’s body after he reportedly fell overboard at the Port of Calapan Ferry Berth in Oriental Mindoro. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) led the swift search and retrieval operation on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The victim, a 25-year-old resident of Buluangan, Valderrama, Antique, was last seen around 1 a.m. during a video call at the ferry berth. According to officials, his fellow crew members had already returned to the vessel to rest when he went missing.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., a crew member noticed a silhouette beneath the ferry, which was later confirmed to be the missing crewman. The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Calapan received the report around 9:10 a.m. and immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation.
Rapid Response and Recovery Efforts
The PCG’s Special Operations Group deployed divers who recovered the body within minutes of the search. Coordination with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) ensured ambulance support was on standby. Subsequently, the remains were handed over to Funeraria Naujan for proper care and disposition.
Investigation and Support for Family
Authorities requested assistance from the Philippine National Police’s Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), PNP Maritime, and the ferry company to conduct a thorough joint investigation. Meanwhile, the vessel’s captain was instructed to file a marine protest and submit an official incident report.
