Filipino Arrested in Large-Scale ICE Immigration Operations

Filipino Arrested in Large-Scale ICE Immigration Operations

The Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles confirmed that a Filipino was arrested during the recent large-scale immigration operations conducted by the United States’ Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The consulate is closely monitoring the situation and expects the Filipino immigrant to be deported back to the Philippines soon.

Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz revealed in an interview with local news that the 55-year-old Filipino from Ontario, California, was taken into custody at his home by ICE officials and a parole officer. “Siya po ay naaresto dahil isa po ito sa operasyon ng ICE. So sa bahay po siya inaresto kasama po ang ICE official at isang parole officer,” Cruz stated.

Charges and Family Notification

The arrested individual is facing serious charges, including theft and rape. Authorities have already informed his family about the arrest. However, Cruz clarified that this Filipino was not caught during the recent raid near the Home Depot center, where multiple immigrants were detained.

The consulate has assured the community that it is ready to provide assistance to the detained Filipino. They encourage those affected or needing help to contact the consulate directly.

Advisory for Filipino Community Amid Protests

Along with the arrest confirmation, the Philippine Consulate warned the Filipino community in Los Angeles to stay vigilant and cautious. Demonstrations and protests have erupted in downtown Los Angeles following the ICE raids targeting day laborers and undocumented immigrants.

The consulate advises Filipinos to avoid gathering in large crowds where unrest could occur. They emphasized safety first amid the ongoing tensions. For assistance, the consulate can be reached at (323) 528-1528.

Clarification on Filipino Participation in Protests

Consul General Cruz also noted that no Filipinos were involved in the protests against the intensified immigration crackdown. The rallies began after ICE agents arrested over 40 immigrants in various locations. The gatherings saw relatives and community members confronting federal officers.

In response to the unrest, the U.S. President deployed the California National Guard without prior coordination with state officials, escalating the situation further.
