Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day Celebrates Unity
BAGUIO CITY – The 24th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day brought together a vibrant community as one hundred solo parents received grocery packs during the event held at the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Park inside the Botanical Garden on June 14. This annual celebration highlights the enduring Filipino-Chinese friendship that thrives despite challenges between the two nations.
Local leaders and representatives from the Chinese consulate joined the festivities. Among them were Consul and Head of Post Ren Faquiang from the Chinese consulate in Laoag City, Baguio’s Filipino-Chinese organizations led by businessman Peter Ng, and city officials committed to community development.
“This friendship will not end despite the issues between the two countries, because we who live here in the Philippines, were born and do business here have Filipino blood to love our place and help our countrymen,” said Ng, emphasizing the deep-rooted connection shared by the Filipino-Chinese community.
Building Bridges for the Future
Consul Faquiang expressed satisfaction with the harmony between Chinese and Filipinos in Baguio City. He remarked, “I am very pleased with the relationship between Chinese and Filipinos in Baguio City, because I always see the respect for each other. The upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Philippines-China friendship proves that the length of the relationship is also the length of unity, cooperation towards the economy of the two countries.”
As a symbolic gesture of peace and unity, doves and balloons were released, representing the strong ties between the two peoples.
Community Contributions and City Partnerships
Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s message, delivered by his Executive Assistant Doy Tabilog, praised the Filipino-Chinese community for their active role in social outreach. “They contributed to building additional school facilities and provided vital assistance during disasters,” Tabilog noted.
Furthermore, the Filipino-Chinese community plays a key role in promoting tourism. The Chinoy mural and the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Park, both initiatives by the community, have become popular attractions for visitors. “Our relationship with each other does not end here, but will continue for the development of our city. Thank you very much,” added the mayor.
Careful Selection of Beneficiaries
The City Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Liza Bulayungan, carefully selected the beneficiaries of the grocery packs to ensure the support reached those in genuine need.
This event stands as a testament to how the Filipino-Chinese friendship continues to foster unity, cultural appreciation, and economic cooperation in Baguio City.
