Filipinos Injured Amid Israel Iran Conflict Rise Slowly

Filipinos Injured Amid Israel Iran Conflict: Current Status

The number of Filipinos injured amid the Israel Iran conflict currently stands at seven, with five already discharged from hospitals, officials confirmed Saturday. This ongoing tension has affected many, but the early reports show a relatively stable situation regarding injuries.

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega explained, “May pito na throughout the past several days, nadala sa ospital. Sa pito na iyon, lima na na-discharged na. Pero may dalawa na nasa ospital pa. ‘Yung isa kasi binagsakan ng bubong noong tinamaan ng missile.” (There have been seven throughout the past several days that were taken to the hospital. Of those seven, five have been discharged. But there are two still in the hospital. The roof fell on one of them when it was hit by a missile.)

De Vega added that the patient once reported in critical condition has since undergone successful surgery. This update offers some relief amid the conflict’s hardships.

Rising Number of Displaced Filipinos

While the injury count has not increased, the number of Filipinos losing their homes is rising. “Ang maganda diyan, hindi nadadagdagan [ang injuries]. Ang nadagdagan, ‘yung number ng Filipinos na kailangan i-shelter na, nawawalan ng bahay, mga 67 na, dati 49,” De Vega reported. (The good thing about that is that [the injuries] are not rising. What has increased is the number of Filipinos who need shelter, who are losing their homes, now about 67, previously 49.)

This growing displacement highlights the deepening impact of the conflict on Filipino communities living in affected areas.

Repatriation Efforts for Filipinos Affected

More Filipinos have expressed their intention to return home as the conflict intensifies. “One hundred seventy eight (178) and rising,” De Vega said, noting that the first group of 26 is expected to arrive in the Philippines this weekend.

Since flights are suspended, Filipinos are advised to exit Israel by crossing into Jordan. However, many remain hesitant to leave due to concerns about returning later. “Ang problema po, kakaunti lang talaga ang gustong umuwi dahil ang number one tinatanong nila, ‘Kung uuwi kami, makakabalik ba kami?’ Hindi namin maga-guarantee ‘yan, kasi kailan matatapos ang gulo?” (The problem is, very few OFWs want to go home because the number one question they ask is, ‘If we go home, will we be able to come back?’ We cannot guarantee that, because we do not know when the conflict will end.)

Government and Senator’s Call for Evacuation

Senator Raffy Tulfo strongly urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in both Israel and Iran to evacuate promptly. “With this development, we are earnestly encouraging more of our kababayans in both countries to evacuate and leave crucial areas to ensure their safety,” he said.

He emphasized that while the current alert is voluntary and not a forced evacuation, it is safer to relocate or repatriate. “Bagamat ang alert level na ito ay hindi pa nangangahulugang puwersahang paglikas at voluntary repatriation pa lamang, mas makabubuting lumisan patungo sa mas ligtas na lugar o magpa-repatriate na para sa inyong kapakanan at kaligtasan,” Tulfo added. (Although this alert level does not yet mean forced evacuation and only voluntary repatriation, it would be better to leave for a safer place or repatriate for your own well-being and safety.)

The government assures full support to those returning home amid the ongoing conflict.

Continued Tensions Between Israel and Iran

Fresh missile attacks between Iran and Israel resumed early Saturday, following Tehran’s statement that it would not negotiate over its nuclear program under threat. European efforts to keep peace talks alive continue, but the conflict remains volatile, sources said.

The situation underscores the urgency for Filipinos overseas to stay informed and prioritize safety during these challenging times.
