Filipinos Safe Amid Texas Floods: No Casualties Reported

The Philippine Consulate General in Houston confirmed that no Filipinos were among the reported fatalities following the devastating floods in Texas. As of now, there have been no reports of Filipino casualties, and the consulate remains hopeful that this will continue in the coming days.

The consulate is actively coordinating with the Filipino communities in Kerr County, Kerrville City, and Central Texas—some of the areas most severely impacted by the sudden flooding—to assess the welfare of affected Filipinos. “The Consulate is in direct contact with the Filipino community in Kerrville City and is aware that our kababayans living there are doing okay,” a consulate official shared.

Consulate’s Ongoing Efforts to Monitor Flood Impact

Authorities at the Philippine Consulate General have been closely monitoring the evolving situation, especially in Kerr County, where the flash floods caused the most damage. The consulate continues to track search and rescue operations aimed at locating those still missing after the disaster.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reported that the death toll has reached 78, with 68 fatalities in Kerr County alone, including 28 children. Ten more deaths occurred elsewhere in Texas, and 41 individuals remain missing. Rescue and recovery missions remain active as emergency teams work tirelessly in the flood-affected areas.

Community Coordination and Support

In addition to staying in touch with Filipino residents, the consulate is also coordinating with local authorities to gather information and provide assistance to any Filipino nationals who may be in need. “The Consulate General in Houston is in contact with local authorities and members of the Filipino community in the affected areas to gather more information, and stands ready to extend necessary and appropriate support to any Filipino who may have been affected,” the consulate stated.

One Filipino resident, Bethany Bayer from San Angelo, Texas, shared her experience of the floods. She described the shock of waking up to floodwaters inside her home, a rare event in her usually dry area. Her video, shared with news sources, showed the rising waters surrounding her house, highlighting the suddenness and severity of the flood.

Safety Reminders for the Filipino Community

The consulate urges Filipinos living in Texas to stay alert by monitoring emergency advisories closely. They also encourage residents to contact local authorities immediately if they require help or find themselves in danger.
