Final Preparations for State of the Nation Address Begin
MANILA, Philippines — Final preparations for the State of the Nation Address are underway as the House of Representatives prepares for a lockdown starting July 23, 2025. This key event will mark President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth Sona, and authorities are taking thorough steps to ensure a secure and smooth occasion.
On Thursday, a freshly laundered Philippine flag was raised inside the Batasang Pambansa plenary hall, the venue for the Sona. Meanwhile, the House announced that the Batasang Pambansa complex will close for security sweeps starting next Wednesday.
Security and Logistics Details in Place
An ocular inspection is scheduled for Monday, July 21, to simulate the entire flow of the event. This exercise aims to identify and resolve any possible issues before the Sona day.
Last Tuesday, the Office of the President convened a final inter-agency meeting with all stakeholders involved. Among them was House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, who emphasized the significance of the upcoming State of the Nation Address as an opportunity to “raise the bar even higher.”
“We have a great challenge ahead of us. Over the years, we have consistently set a high standard through the effective conduct of past Sonas,” Velasco remarked.
Coordinated Efforts Ensure Smooth Event
Officials discussed various critical matters, including security plans, traffic rerouting, contingency protocols, and even the choice of the national anthem’s singer. This year, the anthem will be performed by Mr. Sofronio Vazquez, the winner of The Voice Season 26, according to local sources.
Traffic management will include zipper lanes along Commonwealth Avenue, starting at Quezon Memorial Circle and extending to the House complex on July 28 from 9 a.m. The Metro Manila Development Authority assured that despite these measures, vehicle flow will not be significantly disrupted.
Before the President’s Sona, the 20th Congress will officially open its session. The House will convene at the Batasang Pambansa plenary hall, while the Senate will meet in its Pasay City office.
