Fire Hits Caloocan City Residential Neighborhood: One Dead, Several Injured
A devastating fire struck a residential neighborhood in Barangay 81, Caloocan City, leaving one person dead and four others injured. The blaze erupted on Wednesday afternoon around 5 p.m., destroying the homes of 70 families.
The fire quickly spread through the area because the houses were built with light materials, allowing the flames to engulf the community rapidly. Efforts to control the fire reached the second alarm level before firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze at approximately 10 p.m.
Community Impact and Missing Person Search
Residents rushed back to their homes as soon as they noticed the fire. One affected resident shared, “Dali-dali kaming umuwi dito sa bahay. Ngayon, naabutan ng asawa, nandito na po yung apoy sa eskinita,” describing how the fire had already reached the alleyway when her husband arrived.
Aside from the injured, one person remains missing. Barangay 81’s chairperson said, “Yung pamilya, na ngayon nandito sa barangay, anak niya kanina pa hinahanap – babae na 16 years old,” highlighting the ongoing search for a 16-year-old girl. The family is currently staying at the barangay hall as authorities continue their efforts.
Injuries and Fire Response
Among the four injured individuals was a fire volunteer who suffered electrocution but is now reported to be in stable condition. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, which caused an estimated property damage of around P300,000.
Local fire officials emphasized that the fire spread rapidly due to the construction materials used in the neighborhood, complicating containment efforts. The community is now assessing the extent of the damage and beginning recovery efforts.
