Fire Hits Sampaloc Residential Area Early Wednesday
MANILA, Philippines — A devastating fire struck a residential area in Sampaloc, Manila early Wednesday morning, destroying 70 houses and affecting around 200 families, local officials reported. The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirmed the extent of the damage as emergency teams responded swiftly.
According to initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), most of the affected homes were constructed from light materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The estimated damage has reached approximately P300,000, sources said.
Emergency Response and Victims
While no deaths or injuries were officially recorded, a 54-year-old woman lost consciousness due to a panic attack and remains in unstable condition, emergency responders noted. The Manila Social Welfare and Development Department quickly provided food assistance to the families displaced by the blaze.
The fire broke out at the corner of M. Dela Fuente and Firmeza Streets in Barangay 448, Zone 44. The BFP-National Capital Region reported the first alarm sounded at 12:34 a.m., quickly escalating to the second alarm by 12:41 a.m.
Fire Escalation and Control
The fire intensified, reaching third and fourth alarms at 12:46 a.m. and 12:54 a.m., respectively, before firefighters declared the blaze under control at 1:44 a.m. Firefighters continued to work until the fire was fully extinguished at 5:44 a.m.
Authorities continue to monitor the affected area as investigations proceed. No further information has been released at this time, local leaders noted.
