Fisherman Rescued After Engine Fails in Romblon Waters
A fisherman who went missing during a fishing trip off Romblon was safely rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday, June 16. Romeo Uyao was aboard his fishing boat, MBCA Rai Rai, when a mechanical failure left him stranded at sea.
On June 15, the rocker arm of his vessel malfunctioned, causing the engine to stop working while he was near Barangay Agbudia, roughly 2,600 nautical miles from Barangay Poblacion in Magdiwang town. This breakdown made his boat drift helplessly in the nearby waters.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Concerned by his prolonged absence, local authorities reported Uyao’s situation to the PCG. The Coast Guard’s Sub-Station Magdiwang quickly launched a search and rescue operation. Fortunately, Uyao managed to hold on to his boat until rescuers arrived.
After locating him, the PCG team escorted both Uyao and his boat back safely to Magdiwang. Local officials noted the importance of quick action during maritime emergencies to ensure fishermen’s safety.

This incident highlights the risks fishermen face while at sea, especially when unexpected mechanical problems arise. The community expressed relief over Uyao’s safe return and urged fishermen to maintain their vessels regularly.
