Fisherman Rescued Near Ticala Island
Local fishermen successfully rescued a fellow fisherman who was stranded on his small boat near Ticala Island in San Pablo, Zamboanga del Sur on Monday afternoon. The rescued man, Muamsar Lumuna, 27, hails from Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
According to one of the six rescuers, Michael Padayhag, 32, from Barangay Manicaan, Tabina town, they were passing by the Ticala area when they noticed a boat floating with a man who appeared weak. They immediately approached and found out that the boat’s engine had run out of gas.
Immediate Care and Coordination for Rescued Fisherman
Lumuna shared with his rescuers that he had not eaten for three days while adrift at sea. The rescuers provided him with food and water right away. Afterwards, Padayhag’s group coordinated with local authorities in Pagadian City for assistance.
The fisherman was transported from the sea to the Pagadian City fish port and handed over to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) personnel on Monday evening. He was then transferred to the Pagadian City Infirmary in Barangay Danlugan for urgent medical care.
Details on the Incident and Lumuna’s Condition
CDRRMO chief Richard Fabria explained that Lumuna was part of a fleet of small boats delivering fish to Balabagan town in Lanao del Sur. On their return to the main vessel, his boat ran out of fuel. Unable to reach the mother boat, he chose to wait for rescue.
As of Tuesday morning, Lumuna’s condition was stable. Authorities in Sultan Kudarat were contacted and connected with Lumuna’s family, who were reportedly on their way to Pagadian City to pick him up.
“They were on their way to Pagadian City to fetch Lumuna,” Fabria said, according to sources. The quick response of local fishermen and coordinated efforts by disaster officials ensured the fisherman’s safe recovery.
