Five Die in Pasig City Fire Tragedy
A devastating fire swept through a residential area in Barangay Buting, Pasig City, late Wednesday night, June 4. The tragic incident left five people dead, including a one-year-old baby and two children. Local leaders reported that the fire erupted around 10:56 p.m. in a four-story building along E. Mendoza Street.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed that the blaze was brought under control by 11:58 p.m. Unfortunately, the victims could not escape the rapidly spreading flames. The building, constructed with light materials and featuring old flooring, likely contributed to the fire’s fast expansion.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
According to barangay officials, those who died included a mother, her infant child, and an 11-year-old daughter. Also among the casualties were a neighbor who worked as a government employee and the neighbor’s 15-year-old child. Their bodies were recovered early Thursday morning, June 5.
The narrow access roads made it difficult for emergency responders to reach the scene quickly. This challenge potentially delayed rescue operations, as noted by fire officials.
Community Impact and Support
At least 11 other families were displaced by the fire. These affected residents were taken to a nearby evacuation center, where they received meals and assistance. Local leaders emphasized the community’s need for support during this difficult time.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the fire to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The incident has sparked concerns about fire safety in residential areas with older structures and tight access.
