Five Men Arrested for Theft of Commuter’s Phone in Manila
Authorities apprehended five men on Wednesday for their alleged role in the theft of a commuter’s phone in Manila. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported the incident occurred at around 9 p.m. Tuesday near a gas station along Old Panaderos Street in Sta. Ana.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 34, reportedly targeted a 53-year-old private nurse riding a public utility bus on Taft Avenue in Malate. The victim immediately informed the police after the theft took place, prompting a swift response.
Quick Police Action Leads to Arrests
By 1:45 a.m., authorities successfully detained all five suspects. Along with the suspects, police recovered the stolen phone and two Honda Click motorcycles believed to have been used in the escape. Before formal custody, the men underwent medical examinations at a hospital.
The suspects now face theft charges under Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code. NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin encouraged the public to report crimes promptly by dialing 911, which promises fast and efficient police assistance through its upgraded system.
