Five Pangasinan Areas Declare State of Calamity Due to Floods
On Tuesday, five areas in Pangasinan declared a state of calamity following severe flooding brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat.” The affected locations include Dagupan City and the towns of Calasiao, Lingayen, Malasiqui, and Sta. Barbara. This declaration aims to hasten relief efforts and provide emergency aid to thousands of displaced residents.
In Calasiao, heavy flooding struck 17 out of 24 villages, forcing approximately 18,000 people to leave their homes. Local officials reported significant damage to agricultural lands, livelihoods, and essential infrastructure. The flooding has disrupted daily life and threatened the community’s economic stability.
Relief and Recovery Efforts Accelerate in Lingayen and Sta. Barbara
Lingayen’s declaration of calamity will unlock funds needed for immediate relief and evacuation operations. Meanwhile, Sta. Barbara’s local government sees this step as critical to speeding up recovery and ensuring swift delivery of emergency assistance to affected residents.
Widespread Flooding Hits Malasiqui’s Rice Lands
Malasiqui reported flooding in 15 barangays, impacting nearly 80 percent of the town’s ricelands. Evacuations are underway, although most roads remain passable, allowing aid and relief supplies to reach flood victims. Local leaders emphasized the urgency of protecting agricultural assets vital to the community’s livelihood.
Dagupan City Faces Severe Flooding, Evacuations Ongoing
In Dagupan City, floodwaters have submerged all barangays, including the bustling business district. At least 441 families, totaling 1,279 individuals, have taken refuge in evacuation centers. Key roads remain underwater, hampering movement and complicating rescue operations.
To address the crisis, Dagupan’s city council passed Resolution No. 074, authorizing the immediate release of emergency funds. In addition, officials have requested extra supplies, including antibiotics and 46,000 food packs, from national health and social welfare agencies to support affected residents.
Local leaders noted the importance of community cooperation and timely government response to mitigate the flooding’s impact. They continue to monitor weather updates and coordinate with agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of residents.
