Five Possible Monkeypox Cases Under Surveillance in Zamboanga City
Zamboanga City health authorities are currently monitoring five possible monkeypox cases, local experts reported on Wednesday, May 28. The cases, which have drawn attention due to their locations along the central, east, and west coasts, have prompted immediate isolation protocols to prevent further spread.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with monkeypox were instructed to isolate as a precaution. Although officials have not disclosed their identities, the geographic spread suggests a broad concern across the city.
Cleared Suspected Cases and Initial Exposure
Meanwhile, three other suspected cases located on the east coast have been cleared after medical evaluation. These individuals were initially suspected due to exposure to a three-year-old child from a neighboring province, Tungawan in Zamboanga Sibugay, where the first monkeypox case in that province was confirmed.
Zamboanga City shares a boundary with Tungawan, increasing the importance of vigilant monitoring and quick response. Community leaders said that the isolation of the five possible cases aims to curb any potential outbreak.
Health officials continue to emphasize the importance of awareness and early reporting of symptoms to effectively contain the virus. The local community is urged to stay informed and follow health guidelines to prevent transmission.
