Flight Disruptions Due to Tropical Depression Isang Weather
Severe weather caused by Tropical Depression Isang and the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, led to multiple flight disruptions on Friday, August 22. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) confirmed that the inclement weather caused cancellations and diversions affecting many travelers.
Flight Cancellations Amid Bad Weather
As of noon on August 22, Caap reported several canceled flights, particularly from Cebu Pacific Air. These cancellations included routes between Manila and Tuguegarao as well as Manila and Cauayan. The affected flights were CEB506, CEB507, CEB508, CEB509, CEB196, and CEB197.
Flight Diversions Due to Tropical Depression Isang
In addition to cancellations, some flights were diverted because of the worsening weather conditions. PAL Express flights GAP2957 (Manila to Cotabato) and GAP2963 (Manila to Busuanga) were diverted back to Manila. Meanwhile, CebGo’s flight SRQ6068 from Mactan to Busuanga also returned to its origin airport.
Passengers Affected and Advisory
Authorities noted that a total of 1,019 passengers were impacted by these flight disruptions. Officials advised travelers to stay in close contact with their airlines for the latest updates and assistance with rebooking. “Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for updated flight information and rebooking concerns,” Caap emphasized.
Continuous Monitoring and Safety Measures
The aviation authority continues to monitor weather developments closely. They remain in active coordination with airline operators and airport officials to prioritize the safety and welfare of all passengers. Community members said the ongoing vigilance aims to mitigate further travel disturbances as the storm progresses.
