Flights Disrupted by Southwest Monsoon Weather Saturday
Two flights were disrupted on Saturday, July 26, due to the southwest monsoon weather, locally called habagat, affecting parts of the Philippines. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) confirmed that these disruptions stemmed from adverse weather conditions linked to the southwest monsoon.
According to a Caap advisory issued around 1 p.m., the following flights were affected as of 6 a.m.:
Philippine Airlines Flight Disruptions
- PR 2932: Manila to Basco
- PR 2933: Basco to Manila
Passengers are urged to check directly with their airlines for the latest updates, options for rebooking, or refund procedures, the agency advised.
Airport Damage and Closure
The Caap also reported damage to the San Fernando Control Tower caused by persistent rains. Glass panels and part of the ceiling were compromised, exposing communication equipment to water damage. Due to these issues, San Fernando airport remains closed until repairs are completed.
The aviation authority has issued a notice to airmen regarding the closure and advises caution for flights in the area.
Weather Forecast and Tropical Depression Update
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) previously forecasted rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and nine provinces in Luzon, all linked to the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Emong, internationally known as Co-may, exited the Philippine area of responsibility early Saturday morning, easing some weather concerns.
