Flood Control Project in Oriental Mindoro Faces Damage
Authorities and contractors have confirmed that a flood control project in Oriental Mindoro, recently damaged by heavy rains, is currently undergoing necessary repairs. This flood control project in Oriental Mindoro, which plays a vital role in protecting local communities, sustained damage affecting approximately five percent of the construction work.
According to sources familiar with the project, the damage resulted from intense rainfall that recently swept through parts of Luzon and Visayas. Despite the setback, repair efforts began promptly on August 2 and are on track to be completed by the end of the month.
Commitment to Quality and Coordination
The contractor responsible for the project has assured the public that the restoration is being carried out following their standard warranty commitments. “Sunwest is committed to ensuring that our projects remain reliable and resilient,” community representatives quoted the company as saying. The rehabilitation process is also being closely coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), ensuring compliance with government standards and protocols.
Addressing Public Concerns Amid Investigation
This announcement comes amid ongoing investigations into the top 15 contractors identified by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who are under scrutiny for alleged corruption and the presence of ghost projects. Local leaders noted that the contractor involved, ranked eighth on the list, holds a Quadruple A (AAAA) accreditation from the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board since 2019, the highest possible classification.
Moreover, officials reported that the company has maintained an ISO certification for quality and safety standards since 2011 and is recognized by the Bureau of Internal Revenue as a Large Taxpayer. These credentials highlight the firm’s financial stability and adherence to regulatory compliance.
Focus on Long-Term Solutions
Representatives from the contractor emphasized their dedication to public trust and government partnerships. “We value the trust of the public and our partners in government. Our priority is to deliver long-term solutions that safeguard lives and livelihoods in Mindoro and beyond,” they stated.
Community members also highlighted that the contractor was co-founded by a current public official, adding context to the ongoing scrutiny but affirming transparency efforts.
