“A true leader does not silence the grievances of the people. A true leader listens and acts to end corruption. The administration’s call for calm is a grave insult to every suffering Filipino and a clear attempt to cover up corruption and the rot of bureaucrat capitalism,” Tinio added.
Government’s Response and Protests Amid Budget Discussions
Malacañang urged calm to prevent unrest similar to Indonesia’s recent protests, where clashes resulted in fatalities and injuries. Palace officials assured that due process is being followed during investigations into the flood control projects corruption.
Meanwhile, progressive groups including Kabataan, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, and Bayan Muna staged protests outside the House of Representatives during the Department of Public Works and Highways’ 2026 budget hearing.
