Flood-Free Roxas Boulevard Opens to Traffic
Parts of Roxas Boulevard are now flood-free and accessible to all vehicles, local authorities reported Sunday morning. After days of heavy rains from Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, water levels have significantly receded, allowing smoother passage along this key Manila thoroughfare.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) confirmed in its 2:40 p.m. update that flooding, once gutter-deep at about eight inches, subsided by 11 a.m. in crucial sections of Roxas Boulevard. These include the service road near UN Avenue and the stretch from Salas to Pedro Gil.
Current Tropical Storm Crising Status
As of 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha) is still being tracked outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The storm was located approximately 730 kilometers west of Itbayat in Batanes and is moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. It carries maximum winds of 100 kph with gusts reaching 125 kph.
Widespread Impact Across Regions
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) released a 6 a.m. situational report showing that 523,686 individuals, or 151,012 families, across 1,134 barangays have been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Storm Crising and the habagat. These communities span multiple regions including the National Capital Region, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western and Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Out of those affected, 33,608 individuals (9,261 families) have sought refuge in evacuation centers. Additionally, 99,834 people (22,511 families) are receiving aid while staying outside evacuation facilities.
Local officials continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that necessary relief and assistance reach the affected families. The receding floodwaters along Roxas Boulevard provide some relief to commuters and residents, signaling a gradual return to normalcy.
