Flooding Threatens Zambales and Bataan Due to Typhoon Emong
Flooding continues to threaten the provinces of Zambales and Bataan as an orange rainfall warning was issued early Friday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised the alert due to Typhoon Emong combined with the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.
According to the 5 a.m. heavy rainfall bulletin, the two provinces may receive between 15 to 30 millimeters of rain over the next three hours. This heavy rainfall warning signals a significant risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities.
Yellow Rainfall Warning for Metro Manila and Nearby Areas
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and seven other Luzon provinces were placed under a yellow rainfall warning. This level predicts rain accumulation of 7.5 to 15 millimeters in the next three hours, signaling the possibility of moderate rain but less severe than the orange warning areas.
The areas under the yellow rainfall warning include:
- Metro Manila
- Tarlac
- Pampanga
- Bulacan
- Rizal
- Laguna
- Cavite
- Batangas
Residents in these locations are advised to stay alert as flooding remains possible in vulnerable zones.
Current Rainfall Conditions and Affected Areas
Pagasa also reported ongoing light to moderate rains with occasional heavy downpours affecting Nueva Ecija and parts of Quezon, specifically in Real, General Nakar, and Infanta. These weather conditions may persist for the next three hours and could spread to nearby areas.
Typhoon Emong’s Path and Impact
In a separate 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa noted that Typhoon Emong has accelerated and is expected to make a second landfall between Ilocos Sur and northern La Union later Friday morning. The typhoon was last spotted over the coastal waters of Bangar, La Union, moving northeast at 20 kilometers per hour.
Emong is packing strong winds with maximum sustained speeds of 120 kph near its center and gusts reaching up to 165 kph. Various regions have been placed under Signal Warnings 4, 3, 2, and 1 as the typhoon continues to intensify and enhance the habagat.
Local authorities and residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for possible flooding and strong winds caused by the combined effects of Typhoon Emong and the southwest monsoon.
