Foreign Fugitive Arrested in Misamis Oriental for Fraud Charges
Authorities captured a 53-year-old foreigner wanted in South Korea for fraud in an operation in Opol, Misamis Oriental. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) made the arrest on June 13, acting on a Red Notice issued by Interpol. This foreign fugitive, known as “Jang,” is linked to violations under South Korea’s Punishment of Tax Offenses Act involving fraud.
CIDG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon emphasized that the arrest sends a clear message: the Philippines is not a refuge for fugitives. “This swift and responsive police service that led to the capture of the Korean fugitive underscores the CIDG’s relentless effort in arresting all wanted persons in the country,” he said.
Collaboration Key to Swift Capture
Following the arrest, Jang was immediately turned over to the Bureau of Immigration, which will handle his deportation proceedings. Suguilon highlighted the importance of strong cooperation between agencies like the CIDG and the Bureau of Immigration in enforcing the law against foreign fugitives.
The CIDG’s aggressive stance on fugitives aligns with recent operations across the Philippines. Just days before, on June 10, authorities apprehended 46 wanted individuals nationwide within 24 hours. The charges against them ranged from murder and rape to arson and estafa.
Commitment to Public Safety and Justice
The arrest of this foreign fugitive in Misamis Oriental is part of a broader effort to ensure the country remains safe and just. Local leaders noted that law enforcement’s dedication to tracking down criminals, regardless of nationality, reinforces public trust and national security.
The CIDG continues to pursue all persons evading the law, emphasizing that no one is beyond reach. Such operations protect communities and uphold the rule of law.
