Four Flights Diverted Due to Mactan Runway Closure

Runway Closure Disrupts Mactan Arrivals

Four flights arriving in Mactan were forced to divert after a temporary runway closure at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport on Tuesday evening. The disruption affected several incoming flights, causing changes to their usual landing routes.

Officials reported that the closure involved runway 22L, which was shut down due to the presence of numerous foreign object debris. The debris was carried onto the runway by adverse weather conditions, prompting authorities to prioritize passenger safety.

Details of Flight Diversions

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed the affected flights and their new destinations. Two flights were diverted to Bacolod: Flight GAP2375 from Siargao and Flight GAP2348 from Puerto Princesa. Meanwhile, two others landed in Panglao: Flight PAL1358 from General Santos and Flight GAP2996 from Zamboanga.

Alternative Runway Reopened

While the main runway remained closed until further notice, an alternate runway was opened at 6:20 p.m. to help accommodate arriving flights. This measure aimed to reduce delays and restore normal operations as swiftly as possible.

Community members noted the importance of swift action during such events to maintain airport safety and minimize inconvenience to travelers. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are conducting cleanup efforts on the affected runway.

Impact on Travelers and Airport Operations

Passengers on the diverted flights experienced changes in their arrival plans, with some facing longer travel times due to rerouting. Local leaders emphasized that such disruptions, though unfortunate, are necessary to ensure the safety of all airport users.

Officials advised travelers to stay updated on flight statuses and to coordinate with their respective airlines for assistance. They also assured the public that efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the main runway as soon as possible.
