FPJ Panday Bayanihan Rep. Brian Poe Urges Stronger Cybersecurity Measures

FPJ Panday Bayanihan Rep. Brian Poe Raises Alarm on Cybersecurity

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – FPJ Panday Bayanihan Rep. Brian Poe expressed serious concern over the recent cyberattack on the Civil Service Commission’s learning management system. This breach reportedly affected the data of more than 76,000 users, exposing them to potential risks.

“Our civil servants and their families now face risks of fraud, identity theft, and other malicious activities. Government must treat cybersecurity as a top priority,” Poe said, emphasizing the urgency of safeguarding government platforms.

Swift Response Praised Amid Growing Cyber Threats

Officials reported that the CSC acted quickly to disclose the breach and collaborated with relevant authorities to contain the incident and secure its systems. However, community members noted this event should serve as a stark warning for all government agencies to bolster their defenses against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

“This alarming incident highlights a larger and urgent issue: the need for stronger cybersecurity measures across all government platforms,” the lawmaker stressed. “Every Filipino who entrusts their personal information to government systems deserves assurance that their data is secure.”

Rising Cyberattacks Demand Immediate Action

Cyberattacks targeting government institutions have become more frequent and complex in recent years. These attacks compromise sensitive information and disrupt essential public services. Local leaders noted that recent Senate investigations revealed a rise in cyber espionage activities near critical infrastructure and data centers.

“With digital services now central to governance, public trust in our systems is non-negotiable,” the representative said. “We must guarantee that the protection of citizens’ data is treated with the same urgency as national security. Our budgets must reflect that commitment, because cybersecurity is not an optional upgrade — it is an essential shield for our people.”

Commitment to Digital Security and Capacity Building

The neophyte congressman, known for his strong advocacy on digital security, has consistently pushed for increased investments in government cybersecurity infrastructure. He also supports stronger safeguards for public data and capacity-building programs to better prepare agencies against cyberattacks.

He vowed to continue championing these reforms to ensure the Philippines can effectively face the growing threats of the digital age and protect its citizens’ information.
