Free Train Rides on LRT-2 Begin Following Technical Delay
MANILA — Starting today until Thursday, passengers can enjoy free train rides on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) as a response to recent technical issues that caused service disruptions. This temporary measure aims to ease travel for commuters affected by the delays.
“Yes, we ordered LRT-2 libreng sakay (free rides) for today and [the] whole day tomorrow,” Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed to local media outlets. This initiative reflects efforts to prioritize commuters’ convenience amid the ongoing challenges.
Additional Free Bus Services Along Key Segments
Along with the free train rides, free bus services will be deployed between Antipolo and Cubao stations to support passengers while the LRT-2 operates under limited capacity. According to transportation officials, these buses will help accommodate the volume of travelers during this provisional service period.
Provisional Service Limits Train Operations
Earlier Wednesday morning, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that LRT-2 has shifted to provisional service. This means trains run only on a restricted route from Recto Station to Araneta Center-Cubao Station, limiting travel options for those commuting beyond these points.
This temporary adjustment follows an undisclosed technical fault that delayed the normal operation of LRT-2 trains. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and promise to restore full service as soon as repairs are completed.
Commuters Urged to Use Free Rides
Sec. Dizon urged commuters to take advantage of the free rides on both trains and buses to minimize inconvenience. “We want to make sure no one is left stranded during this period,” he said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public transport accessibility.
Local leaders and transportation agencies are coordinating to ensure smooth service and continuous updates for the public. Passengers are advised to stay informed on schedules and route changes through official announcements.
