Gilas Pilipinas Youth Shines in SEABA Qualifiers
President Marcos extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Gilas Pilipinas Youth team after their commanding 70-40 victory over Indonesia during the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA qualifiers. The game took place at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center on Friday, May 30.
In a social media message posted the following day, the President praised the team’s impressive performance and undefeated streak. He stated, “Isang malaking saludo sa Gilas Pilipinas Youth! Congratulations on your dominant 6–0 run and the gold medal at the U-16 SEABA Qualifiers.”
He further emphasized the talent and determination of the young Filipino players, adding, “Isang malinaw na patunay na ang galing at determinasyon ng kabataang Pilipino ay walang kapantay.”

As the team prepares for the next round of the FIBA Asia Cup, the President assured them of continued support from his administration. “Suportado namin kayo sa inyong susunod na laban sa FIBA Asia Cup,” he affirmed.
The Gilas Pilipinas Youth team has now achieved an unbeaten 25-0 record in SEABA qualifiers, completing a flawless 6-0 tournament sweep with a remarkable 39-point margin in their latest game.
SEABA Tournament Highlights
Besides the Gilas Pilipinas Youth’s gold medal win, Malaysia secured the bronze by defeating Thailand 78-69. Singapore took fifth place after beating Vietnam with a score of 87-78.
This impressive showing by the Filipino youth in the Southeast Asian basketball scene highlights their growing dominance and potential to excel in larger international competitions.
