Mediation Conference on GMA Network and TAPE Estafa Complaint
Legal representatives from a major Philippine network and a prominent production company met recently for a mediation conference at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. The meeting aimed to explore a possible settlement in connection with the network’s estafa complaint against the production firm. The exact four word keyphrase “possible settlement regarding estafa” was a central focus during the discussions.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the network’s legal team emphasized their intent to recover funds they claim were misappropriated. A legal counsel explained, “We want to collect the amount that was misappropriated… the amount that should have been given to GMA but was not remitted by the officers of TAPE. Unfortunately, despite repeated demands, hindi nabigay sa atin ’yon.”
Production Company Acknowledges Debt, Disputes Nature
Meanwhile, the production company did not deny owing money to the network. Their lawyer clarified, “I think TAPE naman is not denying that there’s collectibles to the corporation. Maybe the main contention only is whether it’s civil or criminal.” This highlights the ongoing debate regarding the classification of the claim, which affects how the case proceeds.
Details of the Estafa Complaint
The estafa complaint centers on an alleged misuse of nearly 38 million pesos in advertising revenue. These funds were supposed to be remitted to the network under a 2023 agreement but were reportedly diverted to cover the production company’s operational expenses. This action is said to have violated the trust arrangement between the parties.
Outlook on Possible Settlement Regarding Estafa
Both parties agreed to continue mediation, with another conference set for June 11. One legal representative expressed openness to negotiation: “We have been saying din naman that management is open to listen and to see what offer they have. And if it’s reasonable, we can decide on what to do about it.”
The production company’s counsel added, “Under the rules, ‘yung mediation kasi is also dependent on the complainant if they are willing or open for settlement… maganda na nalaman natin on the part of GMA that they are open for settlement.”
If no settlement is reached, the case will proceed to preliminary investigation, moving the dispute further into the legal system.
