Government and Private Sector Expand AI Literacy Nationwide
MANILA, Philippines — The government and private sector have joined forces to broaden artificial intelligence literacy across the country. This collaboration aims to prepare Filipinos for an increasingly AI-driven future by promoting knowledge and skills development.
The plan was solidified during a meeting on Wednesday between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC)—Education and Jobs Sector Group, according to local sources. Presidential Press Officer Claire Castro shared details during a briefing, emphasizing the importance of expanding AI literacy to enhance the nation’s capacity not only to use but also to develop AI technologies.
Preparing for an AI-Powered Future
“The upscaling initiative using AI will help expand AI literacy in the country,” Castro explained in Filipino. She added that this effort will ready employees to thrive in an AI-powered environment, strengthening the Philippines’ competitive edge in the global tech landscape.
Alongside this, the private sector is committed to intensifying early immersion programs that expose students to professional work environments. “Aside from upscaling, student work immersion programs will also be intensified to give young people early exposure to a professional work environment,” Castro said. “In partnership with the private sector, the government continues to take action and work toward achieving the country’s development and economic goals.”
Boosting Job Opportunities and Skills
Recent nationwide job fairs organized by the Private Sector Advisory Council led to over 4,600 immediate hires, showcasing strong momentum in employment efforts. These initiatives reflect a broader strategy to align education with evolving industry demands, particularly in technology and AI fields.
By expanding artificial intelligence literacy, the Philippines aims to equip its workforce for future challenges and opportunities. This collaborative approach between government and private entities highlights a shared commitment to sustainable economic growth and innovation.
