20,000 New Teaching Positions Approved for 2025
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has officially approved the final batch of teaching positions, completing the 20,000 teaching items planned for 2025. This move aims to boost the number of educators in public schools nationwide.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman authorized the creation of 4,000 new Teacher I roles, all with Salary Grade 11. These positions will support kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels for the 2025–2026 school year.
Allocation Details and Government Goals
Out of the 4,000 new posts, 1,658 will be assigned to kindergarten and elementary levels, 391 to junior high, and 1,951 to senior high school. This completes the 20,000 teaching positions requested by the Department of Education (DepEd) for 2025.
“I am happy to share that we have already approved the creation of an additional 4,000 new teaching positions to support the hiring of more teachers in public schools. This is on top of the initial 16,000 positions under batch 1 that we’ve already approved in May this year. So, sa ngayon, kumpleto na po at buo na ‘yung 20,000 na request po sa atin ng DepEd for 2025,” Pangandaman said in a statement.
She emphasized that this is part of President Bongbong Marcos’s vision to increase the teaching workforce and ensure students receive adequate attention. “He stated that all agencies should collaborate, especially in preparation for the country’s reopening of classes. So, that’s what we’re doing,” she added.
Funding and Implementation
The funding for these teaching positions will come from the Department of Education’s built-in appropriations under the 2025 General Appropriations Act. The DBM had initially approved 16,000 teaching roles on May 18, and these positions were filled in time for the school year opening on June 16.
Local education officials noted that this increase in teaching positions will significantly help reduce class sizes and improve education quality across public schools.
