Government Funds for Priority Projects Secure, Marcos Assures
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confidently stated that the government has enough funds to support the priority projects of his administration, provided the resources are protected from corruption. This assurance came during Part 2 of the third episode of the PBBM Podcast, titled “Sa Likod ng Sona,” which aired recently.
When asked whether the Philippines has sufficient funds to sustain the programs outlined in his latest State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos answered affirmatively. He emphasized the importance of proper use of public money, especially for education and other priority sectors.
Proper Use of Funds Critical to Success
“Yes, there is. As long as the money of the Philippines is used properly. The money allocated for this – for classrooms – is actually used for classrooms,” Marcos explained, stressing that misuse of funds weakens the government’s ability to deliver on its promises.
He cited an example where funds intended to build two classrooms were diverted, resulting in only one classroom being constructed while the rest of the money was pocketed. “Things like that,” Marcos lamented, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring and transparency.
He concluded, “If we’re really strict and our funds are used properly, then we have.” This statement underscores the administration’s stance that corruption control is key to maximizing government resources.
Priority Programs Highlighted in SONA
In his recent SONA on July 28, President Marcos outlined several priority initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, and other sectors. Among these are the continuing P20 per kilo rice program, zero-balance billing for patients in Department of Health-listed hospitals, and the expansion of Bulilit Centers to support early childhood education.
Local leaders noted that these programs aim to deliver tangible benefits to Filipino families, especially the marginalized sectors. The government’s commitment to fund these projects depends heavily on eliminating corruption and ensuring that budgets are fully utilized for their intended purposes.
