Government Investing Heavily to Make Philippines Safest
MANILA, Philippines — The government is investing heavily to transform the Philippines into one of the safest countries globally, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced. This ambitious goal is a top priority for the administration as it pushes forward with several key safety initiatives.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) shared these updates shortly after Secretary Remulla attended the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association Summit in Parañaque City. “For the next few years, next few months, [we’re investing] heavily to make the country one of the safest in the world,” he said.
Revitalizing Emergency Services and Expanding Surveillance
One major step in the government’s safety plan involves revitalizing the 911 emergency call system. Sources said the system will be fully operational in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao by July. This upgrade aims to provide faster response times and improved assistance for emergency situations.
In addition, the government plans to install at least one closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera for every 1,000 square meters nationwide. This widespread surveillance effort is designed to enhance public security and deter crime effectively.
Furthermore, authorities will procure more police vehicles to support the law enforcement’s goal of responding to incidents within five minutes. These combined measures highlight the government’s serious commitment to public safety.
Addressing Safety Perceptions and Promoting True Security
Earlier, the Department of Tourism criticized a travel website for mistakenly labeling the Philippines as the world’s “least safe country” in a safety index, a tag that was later removed. Local leaders noted the importance of accurate information and public perception in encouraging tourism and investment.
As the government invests heavily to make the Philippines safest, these efforts aim not only to improve actual security but also to boost the country’s image internationally. This comprehensive approach reflects a strong dedication to protecting citizens and visitors alike.
