DOTr Set to Relaunch Love Bus in Key Cities
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is preparing to relaunch the iconic Love Bus in Cebu and Davao, officials said. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon shared this exciting update during a post-State of the Nation Address (Sona) briefing, revealing plans to bring back the beloved service in the coming weeks.
“It’s so exciting for everyone… You’ll see the iconic Love Buses. It’s gladdening. The blue and white buses that we’ll be driving around,” Dizon said in Filipino. This revival aims to restore the nostalgic experience while providing a practical public transport solution.
Free Rides With Government Support
According to sources, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of offering the Love Bus rides free of charge during his recent Sona. He instructed the government to directly subsidize bus companies, ensuring no cost for passengers.
“So the President said, that’s our help. The government can fund it after all. That will be a direct subsidy to the bus companies so they can offer free rides with the Love Bus,” Dizon added.
Distinctive Design and Historical Significance
Earlier this week, the DOTr unveiled the new Love Bus design, featuring the DOTr and Bagong Pilipinas logos prominently on the front, with “Bagong Pilipinas” printed on both sides. The visual identity reflects the government’s commitment to modern yet nostalgic public transportation.
The original Love Bus, introduced in the 1970s, was celebrated as the Philippines’ first air-conditioned bus. It was reportedly a project initiated by then-First Lady Imelda Marcos, adding cultural and historical value to the relaunch.
Local leaders and transport officials expressed optimism that the Love Bus revival will boost public transport appeal while honoring a cherished part of Philippine transport history.
