Militia Member Killed in Grenade Attack
A government militia member lost his life after a grenade attack struck a military patrol base in Barangay Nalapaan, Malidegao town, within the Bangsamoro region’s Special Geographic Area (SGA) early Saturday morning. The grenade attack at military patrol base sent shockwaves through the community around 7 a.m.
According to Lt. Col. Jopy Ventura, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PROBAR), the victim was identified as 25-year-old Bimbo Malingko Lumambas from Barangay Kalakacan, Pikit, Cotabato. Officials reported that Lumambas was stationed outside their patrol base when the assailant approached.
Details of the Assault and Immediate Response
Sources said the suspect, clad in a black hoodie and black cap, arrived on a black Bajaj motorcycle and hurled the grenade at the patrol base. The explosion caused shrapnel wounds, primarily to Lumambas’s stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Local leaders noted that the suspect fled the scene, heading toward Barangay Bualan in Tugunan town, still part of the SGA. Authorities quickly launched a hot pursuit operation involving the Pikit municipal police, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12, Malidegao local police, and the 40th Infantry Battalion to track down the attacker.
Heightened Security Measures Implemented
Following the grenade attack at military patrol base, all patrol bases under the Army’s 6th Infantry Division have been placed on high alert. Community members said security forces are vigilant to prevent any further incidents and ensure public safety in the area.
Investigators continue to probe the motive behind the grenade attack. Meanwhile, local officials urge residents to remain calm but vigilant as operations to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
