Happy Melendres Makes History at Cannes Film Festival
CEBU CITY – Happy Melendres, a renowned socialite and fashion icon, has made history by becoming the first Cebuana to walk twice on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. At the 78th edition of this prestigious global event in France, she captured attention not only for her elegance but also for proudly representing her Cebuano roots.
Wearing a stunning couture gown by internationally acclaimed designer Michael Cinco, Melendres expressed deep pride in showcasing her heritage on the world stage. “I feel so blessed and grateful for this opportunity for me to walk the red carpet again. And I’m very proud to bring Cebu with me. I always tell people I meet there that I come from a beautiful island in the Philippines,” she shared.
Confidence and Grace on the Global Stage
Melendres first debuted at Cannes last year, but her second appearance was even more impressive. She confidently mingled with the elite of global cinema and fashion, making the event feel like a second home. “It’s more familiar and it’s beginning to feel like another home. The first time was getting into a place of the unknown,” she said, reflecting on her growth and newfound ease.
Being one of designer Michael Cinco’s muses helped boost her confidence. The Dubai-based couturier, known for dressing royalty and celebrities, chose her to wear his creations. Melendres praised Cinco’s professionalism and attention to detail. “I am so lucky that Michael Cinco chose me as one of his muse. Aside from him being very talented, he is very professional, humble and kind. He cares a lot about his dresses, every single detail of it. That’s the energy in the dress,” she explained.
Sharing the Spotlight at Cannes
Before walking the red carpet, Melendres also took part in Michael Cinco’s runway show held at the iconic Carlton Hotel in Cannes. She shared the stage with Bollywood star Shalini Passi, Miss Belgium Elizabeth Victoria, Miss Peru Solecito Carmelo, and Miss Philippines Chelsea Manalo. This opportunity allowed her to connect with creatives and influencers from across the globe.
Melendres recalled an engaging conversation with Mohamed Hadid, father of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid, and a chance encounter with Indian designer Manish Malhotra. She also enjoyed catching up with Raul Rocha and Olivia Quido, owners of the Miss Universe Organization. These moments highlighted the unique networking opportunities that come with attending Cannes.
Recognized for Fashion and Media Excellence
Melendres’ second Cannes appearance came shortly after she received the Special Icon Award for Fashion and Media Excellence at the Global Filipino Icon Awards 2025 in Dubai. This honor highlighted her influence as a fashion figure and her role in empowering women to embrace reinvention at any age.
As a late bloomer in the fashion industry, Melendres hopes to inspire others aiming for international success. “It’s more on I want to inspire others to dream, be who you are, your true self. Remember what you wanted to be when you were a child and go for it, be it. Everything is possible if you just imagine and have faith in God,” she encouraged.
