Heat Indices May Reach Dangerous Levels Monday

Heat Indices Could Hit Dangerous Levels on May 26

Heat indices may soar up to 46 degrees Celsius (°C) this coming Monday, May 26, with 25 areas across the country facing potentially dangerous heat conditions. According to local weather authorities, this intense heat could lead to serious health risks if proper precautions are not taken.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to record the highest heat index at 46°C, closely followed by Aparri in Cagayan at 45°C. These numbers indicate extremely hot weather that can quickly affect people’s health.

Other Areas Experiencing High Heat Indices

Several other locations are also at risk. Five areas may experience a heat index of 44°C, including Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, Baler in Aurora, Masbate City in Masbate, and Pili in Camarines Sur. Additionally, nine areas could see heat indices reaching 43°C. These include Batac in Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan in La Union; Echague in Isabela; Baler again in Aurora; Olongapo City in Zambales; Camiling in Tarlac; Infanta in Quezon; Iloilo City; and Dumangas, both in Iloilo.

Areas with Heat Indices of 42°C and Health Risks

Another nine locations may record a heat index of 42°C. These are Pasay City and Quezon City in Metro Manila; Sinait in Ilocos Sur; Casiguran in Aurora; Iba in Zambales; San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Alabat in Quezon; Catbalogan in Western Samar; and Guiuan in Eastern Samar.

Heat indices between 42°C and 51°C are classified as dangerous by meteorological experts because they significantly increase the risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to such heat, especially without proper hydration or cooling, can lead to heatstroke. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are particularly at risk.

Community leaders have urged residents in affected areas to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and seek shade or air-conditioned places whenever possible. They also recommend monitoring for symptoms of heat-related illnesses and seeking medical help immediately if symptoms arise.
