Flooding Outside Senate Due to Heavy Monsoon Rains
Heavy monsoon rains triggered gutter-deep flooding outside the Senate building along Diokno Boulevard in Pasay City on Tuesday morning. The southwest monsoon brought relentless downpours, severely affecting this urban area.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a strong warning to residents in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. According to sources, areas including Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, and Occidental Mindoro may receive between 100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall.
Warnings for Flooding and Landslides Across Metro Manila and Nearby Provinces
Pagasa advised local communities to stay alert, especially those living in low-lying urban zones, near rivers, or in landslide-prone regions. The heavy rains increase the risk of flash floods and landslides in moderate to highly vulnerable areas.
Images captured around 9 a.m. showed vehicles and pedestrians struggling through the floodwaters outside the Senate. Cyclists braved the deep gutters, while workers made their way through flooded streets, highlighting the disruption caused by the weather.
Impact on Senate Operations Amid Flooding
Due to the flooding, work in the Senate was partially suspended. Senate President Francis Escudero directed that only essential Secretariat officials and employees involved in preparations for the 20th Congress inaugural session and the Joint Session on July 28 report for duty.
Residents and commuters are urged to remain cautious and monitor weather updates as the southwest monsoon continues to affect the region. Local authorities are on alert to respond to emergencies caused by the flooding.
