Heavy Rain Due to Tropical Depression Crising Hits Several Areas
Metro Manila and several provinces brace for heavy rain as Tropical Depression Crising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, bring intense rainfall, sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported these weather conditions early Thursday, alerting residents to prepare for possible flooding and landslides.
According to the latest advisory, the habagat is expected to deliver over 200 millimeters of rain from Thursday until Friday noon in Occidental Mindoro and Antique. This heavy downpour raises concerns about widespread severe flooding and landslides in these regions.
Areas Receiving Significant Rainfall
Tropical Depression Crising is forecast to drop between 100 to 200 millimeters of rain in parts of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes. The southwest monsoon will also cause similar rainfall amounts in Palawan, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. These areas should remain vigilant as numerous flooding events are likely, especially in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent locations.
Meanwhile, moderate rain ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters is expected in a wider list of provinces affected by both weather systems. Crising will impact Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran. At the same time, the habagat will bring similar rainfall to Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Aklan, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental.
Flood and Landslide Warnings Issued
Pagasa emphasized that localized flooding is possible, mainly in urbanized areas, lowlands, and places near rivers. Furthermore, landslides may occur in zones identified as moderately to highly susceptible. Residents in these vulnerable spots should heed warnings and prepare accordingly to minimize risks.
Local leaders noted the need for heightened alertness and readiness as the heavy rains continue. Evacuation plans and emergency services are advised to remain on standby to respond promptly to any incidents.
