Heavy Rainfall Advisory in 28 Provinces as Low-Pressure Area Forms

Heavy Rainfall Advisory Issued Nationwide

Authorities have issued a heavy rainfall advisory for 28 provinces across the Philippines on Friday, August 22. This warning comes as a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility, combined with the southwest monsoon or habagat, intensifies weather conditions. Community members reported that these factors will bring significant rain to many regions.

According to the 5 a.m. rainfall forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, more commonly known as Pagasa, several provinces are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters due to the LPA’s effects.

Provinces Affected by the Low-Pressure Area

Officials reported that the following areas will experience the impact of the low-pressure area with substantial rain:

  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Tarlac
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • La Union
  • Bataan
  • Zambales
  • Pangasinan
  • Aurora
  • Quezon
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur

Sources noted that the LPA was last tracked approximately 150 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. Forecasters expect this weather disturbance to strengthen and develop into a tropical depression by Friday.

Southwest Monsoon to Bring Heavy Rainfall

Meanwhile, the habagat is forecast to cause moderate to heavy rains in several other provinces. Local leaders highlighted that this southwest monsoon will bring rainfall amounts between 50 and 100 millimeters, affecting the following areas:

  • Palawan
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • Aklan
  • Antique
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate

Risks of Flooding and Landslides

Experts warned that during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, localized flooding could occur, especially in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent areas. Community members also cautioned that landslides remain a threat in highly susceptible zones.

Residents in these provinces are urged to stay alert and monitor weather updates. Precautionary measures should be taken to prepare for possible flooding and landslide incidents.
