MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau has issued a heavy rainfall advisory as Tropical Storm Crising approaches Northern Cagayan. The storm is expected to bring intense rain over several parts of Northern Luzon, sources said.
According to the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, Crising was located 135 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan. It carries maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 105 kph, moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
Heavy Rainfall Advisory and Flood Risks
Due to its proximity, areas including Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur are forecast to receive more than 200 millimeters of rain until Saturday afternoon. Such heavy downpours may lead to widespread severe flooding and landslides, according to local experts.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters is expected in Batanes, Isabela, Abra, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, La Union, and Pangasinan. Flooding may occur in urbanized, low-lying, and riverside locations, while landslides are possible in areas prone to such hazards.
Additionally, 50 to 100 millimeters of rain will likely fall in Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora. Localized flooding and landslides could also affect highly vulnerable zones in these regions.
“Rainfall may intensify in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, previous heavy rains may worsen impacts in some locations,” sources warned.
Southwest Monsoon Effects Intensify
Tropical Storm Crising is also expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat.” As a result, areas such as Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental may receive between 100 to 200 millimeters of rain during the same period.
Residents in Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte should also prepare for 50 to 100 millimeters of rain due to the habagat until Saturday afternoon.
Authorities continue to monitor the storm’s movement closely and advise residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions to avoid flooding and landslide incidents.
