MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (sources said) expects heavy rainfall in Pangasinan and surrounding regions this Sunday afternoon, driven by the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat. This heavy rain forecast covers a wide area and may bring significant impacts.
According to the latest advisory, several provinces will experience between 50 to 100 millimeters of rain from Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon. The areas affected include Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Iloilo. Residents in these locations should prepare for wet conditions and possible disruptions.
Extended Rainfall Forecast from Monday to Wednesday
The heavy rain is expected to continue beyond Sunday. From Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro are likely to receive even heavier rains ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Pangasinan, La Union, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Antique, and Negros Occidental may see 50 to 100 millimeters of rain during the same period.
From Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon, the rainfall intensity remains high in Zambales, Bataan, Pangasinan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique, with 100 to 200 millimeters expected. Other provinces like Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental are forecasted to receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rain.
Flooding and Landslide Risks Highlighted
Authorities have warned that flooding is possible in these areas, particularly in urbanized zones, low-lying communities, and locations near rivers. Moreover, places with steep terrain susceptible to landslides should remain alert as heavy rains may trigger soil movement.

In a 4 p.m. outlook, sources said that Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro will experience strong monsoon rains. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Antique, and Iloilo will see occasional rains.
Other areas such as the rest of Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Some regions may encounter partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms or rain showers.
Severe Tropical Storm Crising Monitored Nearby
Meanwhile, Severe Tropical Storm Crising, internationally known as Wipha, remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility but is being closely monitored. As of 3 p.m., it was located approximately 935 kilometers west of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 150 kph.
