Heavy Rainfall Forecast Over Luzon Provinces
Heavy rainfall forecast is expected to affect several Luzon provinces this week, officials reported. The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to bring moderate to heavy rains across key areas in the region.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), moderate to heavy rainfall forecast ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters will persist in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique. These rains are projected to last until Thursday noon, with higher amounts possible in mountainous and elevated locations.
Impact of Continuous Rainfall
Local authorities warned that the impacts of the heavy rainfall forecast may worsen in areas that have already experienced significant antecedent rainfall. This could lead to flooding and landslides, especially in vulnerable communities.
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas,” Pagasa explained, emphasizing the need for caution in such zones.
Weather Disturbances Monitored
Officials also reported that one of the two low-pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine area of responsibility dissipated on Wednesday morning. The other LPA remains under close watch, with a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Residents in affected provinces are advised to stay updated and heed local government advisories to ensure safety during the heavy rainfall forecast period.
