Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for Metro Manila
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Metro Manila and several provinces due to the combined effects of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat. The heavy rainfall warning covers a wide area and signals the need for residents to stay alert and prepared.
In an advisory released early Sunday morning, PAGASA forecasted heavy rains ranging between 50 to 100 millimeters across Metro Manila and nearby provinces such as Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. The weather agency emphasized that these conditions could persist throughout Sunday.
Rainfall Expected to Continue Through Tuesday
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue on Monday, particularly in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Albay. On Tuesday, the rain may still affect areas such as Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Antique, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Albay.
Residents in these areas should prepare for possible localized flooding, especially in urbanized, low-lying, and river-adjacent zones. In addition, landslides may occur in mountainous areas prone to such hazards. Local leaders noted the importance of vigilance and precaution as the weather systems persist.
Location and Movement of Weather Systems
According to weather specialists, the Low-Pressure Area was located approximately 285 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, and about 115 kilometers north of Virac, Catanduanes early Sunday morning. The combined impact of the LPA and the habagat is expected to affect large parts of the country over the next few days.
Villagers and city dwellers alike are urged to heed warnings and stay updated on weather developments. “Mag-ingat po tayo lalo na sa mga lugar na madaling bahain at landslide,” a local resident said, highlighting community concern.
