Heavy Rainfall Warning in Mindanao Due to ITCZ
A heavy rainfall warning remains active across several Mindanao provinces as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to bring extensive rain, local experts report. This weather system, where winds from both hemispheres meet, creates dense rain clouds that often result in prolonged downpours.
Forecasters indicate that on Friday, heavy rainfall is expected in areas including Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, as well as Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental.
Persistent Rainfall May Cause Flooding and Landslides
By Saturday, heavy rains are likely to continue in many of these provinces, including Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte and Sur, Basilan, Sulu, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Davao Occidental. Authorities warn that the steady rain could trigger localized flooding, especially in low-lying urban areas and regions near rivers.
Mountainous and high-risk zones face the possibility of landslides due to the saturated soil. Elevated locations may experience even heavier rainfall, and places that have already received significant rain in recent days could see worsening conditions. Community leaders said, “Residents should remain alert and coordinate closely with local disaster offices to ensure safety.”
Precautionary Measures Advised for Residents
Officials emphasize the importance of taking precautionary steps to protect lives and property. They advise those living in vulnerable areas to stay informed about weather updates and prepare emergency plans. Coordination with local disaster risk reduction and management teams is crucial during this period.
Meanwhile, other parts of the country will experience warm and humid weather. Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will see partly cloudy skies due to a high-pressure ridge. Easterly winds will bring partly cloudy to cloudy conditions in the mornings, with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoons or evenings across the remaining regions.
