Southwest Monsoon Floods Hit Many Areas
Residents across several parts of the Philippines are grappling with the effects of the southwest monsoon floods. Continuous heavy rains have caused widespread flooding, forcing local authorities to suspend classes and government work in Metro Manila and 36 provinces on Wednesday. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed that its services remain active despite the adverse weather conditions.
To maintain public service during these conditions, DILG offices in the affected regions have shifted to a work-from-home setup as of July 23, 2025. Meanwhile, essential emergency units like E911 and the Central Office Disaster Information Coordinating Center (CODIX) stay fully operational onsite to assist those in need.
Rainfall Projections and Affected Areas
According to the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the southwest monsoon floods are expected to bring over 200 millimeters of rain in Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Other provinces including Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Rizal may see 100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall.
Community Impact and Response
In Quezon City’s Roxas District, residents waded through submerged streets as heavy rains inundated the area overnight. The swelling Marikina River adds to concerns about potential flooding in adjacent communities. Local leaders urge residents to stay alert and heed evacuation orders if necessary.
The persistent southwest monsoon floods underscore the need for preparedness and efficient government response. Authorities continue to monitor weather developments and are coordinating efforts to minimize disruption and protect lives.
