Heavy Rains Expected in Luzon and Visayas Monday

Heavy rains expected in Luzon and Visayas Monday

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains are expected in parts of Luzon and Visayas on Monday, July 21, while weather conditions will improve in many areas of Mindanao, sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration forecasts continued rainy weather, especially in Metro Manila and western sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

“We expect continued rainy weather where occasional rains are forecast in Metro Manila and western portions of Central and Southern Luzon,” a weather specialist said during the 5 p.m. forecast.

Meanwhile, rains will persist in several Visayas areas, but many parts of Mindanao will see improving weather conditions by Monday, the specialist added.

Monitoring possible low-pressure area and tropical storm

The agency is closely watching cloud clusters in the eastern part of the country, where the possibility of developing into a low-pressure area remains. At the same time, a Severe Tropical Storm named Wipha is being tracked outside the Philippine area of responsibility. As of 3 p.m., it was located 935 kilometers west of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum winds of 110 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching 150 kph.

Gale warnings and sea conditions

Due to strong winds, gale warnings have been raised for the western coast of Pangasinan, Zambales, and the Lubang Islands. These areas can expect rough to very rough sea conditions, with wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 meters.

Weather conditions by region due to southwest monsoon

The southwest monsoon, or habagat, continues to bring monsoon rains to Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Other areas experiencing occasional rains include Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Antique, and Iloilo.

Meanwhile, much of Luzon and Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Caraga Region are under cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Parts of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
