Heavy rains expected in Metro Manila and Luzon areas on July 10
Metro Manila and six key Luzon locations are set to face moderate to heavy rains this Thursday due to the persistent southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, sources said. The continued influence of the southwest monsoon is driving these weather conditions across the region.
Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez from the Philippine weather agency noted that the following areas will likely experience significant rainfall: Metro Manila, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro.
Weather outlook for Luzon and surrounding regions
Dominguez added that while eastern Luzon generally expects fair weather, the southwest monsoon still poses a high chance of rain, especially during early morning, afternoon, and evening hours. This pattern may impact daily activities and travel plans.
Other areas forecasted to have cloudy skies with scattered showers include Palawan, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Soccsksargen (comprising South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City).
For eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao, clear skies are expected overall, but rain chances remain high during specific parts of the day, Dominguez reported.
Flood and landslide risks rise amid continuous rains
Due to ongoing heavy rains, the soil in affected areas is already saturated. Dominguez warned that this greatly increases the risk of landslides and flooding. Residents in vulnerable zones are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
Low-pressure area in PAR has minimal cyclone threat
The low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, sources confirmed. The LPA was last seen 540 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
Dominguez emphasized that this weather system has no direct effect on any part of the country and may even exit the PAR soon, reducing any potential threat.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Bising (international name: Danas) has weakened into an LPA after interacting with China’s landmass. It is now located 745 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the PAR. Officials do not expect it to return or impact the Philippines.
