Heavy Rains Forecast Over Metro Manila and Luzon Friday
MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains are expected to drench Metro Manila and several provinces across Luzon this Friday. This weather condition results from the combined effects of Tropical Depression Bising and the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, sources said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tropical Depression Bising will bring heavy to intense rainfall, with rainfall amounts ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, especially in Ilocos Norte. The same intensity of rain is also forecast in Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan due to the habagat.
“Numerous flooding events are likely, especially in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent areas,” Pagasa warned. They also highlighted the risk of landslides in areas prone to moderate to high susceptibility.
Rainfall Impact Across Luzon Provinces
Besides the heavy rains in Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan, moderate to heavy rainfall between 50 and 100 millimeters is expected in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, and Kalinga as a direct effect of Tropical Depression Bising.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro will also experience moderate to heavy rains due to the habagat. These areas can anticipate rainfall amounts from 50 to 100 millimeters.
Flooding and Landslide Risks
During periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, localized flooding remains a concern, mainly in urban centers, low-lying zones, and communities near rivers. Local leaders noted that residents in these areas should stay vigilant and prepare accordingly.
Additionally, landslides are a possibility in highly susceptible zones, prompting authorities to monitor these areas closely and issue warnings when necessary.
