Heavy Rains Trigger Lahar Flow at Mayon Volcano

LEGAZPI CITY – Continuous heavy rains caused by thunderstorms led to flooding and lahar flow at the foot of Mayon Volcano in Guinobatan, Albay, on Wednesday afternoon, August 13. The heavy rains triggered the lahar flow, affecting several barangays near the volcano.

Roads Blocked by Lahar Flow in Barangay Masarawag

Joy Maravillas, head of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office, reported that roads in Zones 4, 6, and 8 of Barangay Masarawag became impassable due to the rain-induced lahar flow. Local leaders noted that the situation disrupted travel and posed risks to residents in the affected areas.

Weather Advisory Warns of Moderate Rains and Strong Winds

At 12:50 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued an advisory warning of moderate rains accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The advisory covers the towns of Camalig, Jovellar, Guinobatan, and Pio Duran in Albay, as well as parts of Northern Samar and Oriental Mindoro.

Precautions Against Floods and Landslides Urged

Pagasa urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against possible floods and landslides resulting from the ongoing heavy rains. Community members expressed concern about the continuous weather disturbances and the impact on daily life.
