Heavy Traffic Hits North Luzon Expressway Sunday Afternoon
MANILA, Philippines — Heavy traffic buildup on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) slowed down motorists Sunday afternoon, sources said. The traffic congestion stems from a road crash that affected several lanes, causing delays in key sections of the highway.
As of 2 p.m., traffic speeds dropped to 10 to 20 kilometers per hour from Marilao to Lingunan in Valenzuela southbound. This slowdown is due to a crash occupying the leftmost and middle lanes, disrupting the usual flow of vehicles.
Accident Blocks Lanes, Emergency Teams on Scene
Authorities responded swiftly, deploying patrol and emergency units to the crash site to manage the situation and assist those involved. Additionally, counterflow traffic has been implemented from Meycauayan Interchange to Balintawak to ease congestion.
Meanwhile, northbound traffic between the NLEx Harbor Link interchange and Lingunan, Valenzuela, also experienced slowdowns with speeds ranging from 10 to 30 kph. This is attributed to an earlier accident and the use of the leftmost lane for counterflow purposes.
Other Expressway Areas Remain Light
Despite these issues, other parts of the NLEx, including the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and NLEx Connector, maintain light traffic conditions. Toll plazas and interchanges along these routes have not reported significant delays, allowing smoother travel for motorists in those areas.
Local officials continue to monitor the situation closely to restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.
